In an effort to help reduce the tons of plastic bottle waste accumulating in our nation’s solid waste facilities, ENSO Bottles™, in partnership with Resilux America and Bio-tec Environmental, is bringing Eco-Pure™ technology to the PET bottle industry through specially formulated additive, preforms and blown bottles. ENSO bottles are not Oxo-degradable or PLA (corn based) plastics. ENSO bottles are biodegradable in aerobic (compost) and anaerobic (landfill) environments, breaking down through microbial action into biogases and inert humus leaving behind no harmful materials. ENSO bottles are recyclable and can be mixed into the standard PET recycling stream.

It is estimated that more than 100 billion plastic bottles are added to landfills each year. When a traditional plastic bottle enters a landfill, it can take thousands of years to break down - if ever. As you can imagine, this can have a profound impact on our environment.

Scientists are concerned the rate of decay in landfills could be even slower than previously thought. This is because some landfills are so tightly packed, the conditions are not optimal for product breakdown.

In order for plastics to properly break down, tiny microscopic organisms must find the discarded products an irresistible morsel, and begin consuming it bite by bite. Only then, can the item be broken down entirely. Traditional plastics are unattractive to microbes and therefore inedible.

Many products on the market claim to be biodegradable but are in fact only compostable and are unable to degrade in a landfill environment, or the product simply breaks down into smaller pieces (plastic flakes).

By bringing EcoPure™ to the PET bottle industry, ENSO Bottles, LLC has created the only “truly” biodegradable PET bottle in anaerobic, aerobic and compostable environments.  ENSO bottles are covered in the MSDS and made only from FDA recognized materials which are deemed "food grade".

Testing and Validation Data

The biodegradable process expands the molecular structure of the plastic, altering the polymer chain and adding nutrients and other organic compounds which weaken the polymer and attract microbial activity (creating an irresistible morsel). This activity subjugates in and around the plastic, and begins to quickly break down the plastic.

Most plastic products on the market today cannot attract enough (if any) microbial activity to begin breaking down the polymer's molecular structure, thus leaving the process of reclamation to light, heat, mechanical stress and moisture.

An important characteristic of ENSO bottles is the ability to maintain the same physical properties (shelf life, texture, appearance, oxygen transfer rate, etc.) as traditional PET plastic bottles and the ability to be recycled alongside traditional PET. Many other products on the market have a severely reduced shelf life and contaminate the PET recycling stream.
